Last night, as I pounded out the final revisions to terraNOVA’s website and my own, OneMuse, I received this email:
Hi there….My name is **** *** and I am a kindergarten teacher from palm springs, ca. I am looking for the words from the My Buddy doll commercial. We want our kindergarteners to sing the song to their 8th grade buddies at their upcoming graduation. I sure hope you can help me. Thank you very much.
The only thing I can figure is that she Googled (still weird that this is a verb now) “My Buddy” and ended up at my site HERE
Interestingly, I’ve searched for this theme song before on the net, hoping to put it up on my own site as some sort of self-inflicted torture. Reminisce about days gone by and such, you know. Days, as a 9-year-old in rural Illinois I thought about killing myself. For real. Kids can be cruel.
Point being, I laughed first, and then I thought, sure, I’ll reach out to this kindergarten teacher who doesn’t understand my trauma.
I found the lyrics! Googling. On My Space. Go figure.
My Buddy, My Buddy
Wherever I go he goes
My Buddy, My Buddy
Wherever I go he goes
My Buddy and me like to climb up a tree
My Buddy and me are the best friends we can be
My Buddy, My Buddy
My Buddy and me!
Fun nostalgia.
The teacher hasn’t written back yet. If she does, I’ll update.
